Having a lovely time at the #Global Identities International Conference today. Disappointed not to have made it in person but got my supplies around me. Enjoying this session on Gardens and Global Identities.

Watching sun rise over Cowper & Newton Museum in Olney through very dirty windows of my hotel. Not been on research trip for aeons. I have overpacked. And there are stairs. Steep stairs.

Peaches and apricots from my green-fingered neighbour over the road. And HUGE bag of apples. Warwickshire bounty. Oh, and on Tibor Reich plates. That was serendipity.

The state of the persicaria this morning! Next to a peony that’s taking its time. But I think they do. My anemones too look like they are going to do nothing. They’ll all have to shift for themselves until the rain I think as the butts are empty.🌧️

Rain and gloom in South Warwickshire this morning. How bleached those grasses are in the old field running down to the Tachbrook and the tree line.

Now, give me Tottering by Gently any day. A beautiful single bloom. Just catching the sun yesterday.

Still, still morning. Apart from clanking of bird feeder now magpie has left it. Decided really not enamoured of this Gabriel Oak rose which fades to rather dirty deep pink. In fact not keen on these blousy-type roses at all now I’m living with them!

Morning view inviting me to get out there and deadhead. Or at least snip a few crabs off the tree which is laden down with fruits and in danger of losing some branches. However, a day at a desk with material culture has to take precedence.

Loving the movement conveyed in this planting of alliums at West Green House, Hartley Wintney. Also desire this orange bench!

Love this. When you come home from shopping with STUFF you don’t need. From ‘Men’s things’ by @eicathomefinn.bsky.social, Social History, 25:2.

Muggy Sunday morning at Compton Verney.

Urban Plants by Trevor Dines. Latest purchase. This is a heavyweight (literally) volume.

Do wish I’d had this though!

Oxeye daisies doing massively well this year and the crab is laden. Hoping for a bit of June drop or I’ll have to tackle some thinning myself.✂️

Just stepped outside. A little flowery bower. Cutting sections of grass with the ox-eye daises and cowslips working better. Shady bed my favourite but best perhaps past.

Never anticipated having a garden with bounty I could pass actually on.

A welcome sight in South Warwickshire. Positively battering against the window now. Pleased to see and hear it.

G&T time with, new to me, slice of cucumber not lemon. Jolly nice it is too. Celebrating post-op discharge from physio plus contract with OUP for chapter on William Cowper’s gardens. On the page and on the ground. And getting through an afternoon of sorting pots in my own garden.

Just been out to the garden which is having a little white moment. Viburnum, Dicentra and Philadelphus shining out in the dusk.

Who doesn’t love dew on alchemilla mollis leaves in the morning!

Big blue skies going on at Compton Verney earlier today.
May 11, 2025 at 12:33 PM
Oakley Wood walk this morning. Bluebells probably a little way to go but could certainly smell the wild garlic.🧄

My new-build back garden before, middle and after! Just coming up for 3 years old. #GardensHour!

Think this might be the spot to work this afternoon.😎

My little haul of herbs from Hampshire. All grown by @pepperpotherbs.bsky.social just near Alton. Delight to visit yesterday and of course it involved cake in nearby Chawton. Hope these beauties settle into Warwickshire.
