“As Columbia’s Board of Trustees has become constituted largely by hedge fund managers, investment bankers, and venture capitalists, the university has become more of a real estate holding concern than a non-profit educational institution.”
Here is a statement by my colleague Katherine Franke about the end of her time teaching at Columbia. Please read it. drive.google.com/file/d/1i4cO...

we're not hitting hard enough that rage baiters on twitter are making money with every post & impression. like some people get this abstractly, but not enough get the mechanics. we need to be banging on this the same way we need to bang on corruption: this is an attempt to make money. every time.

i can’t stop thinking about the closing sentence of this story, about how the mole wants all the militia nazis he owned to know that a “fucking faggot” leaked all of their secrets and it’s just the kind of energy i need rn
Outraged by Jan 6, he spent two years getting inside the top ranks of militias like the Oath Keepers. He was stunningly successful. He penetrated a new generation of militia leaders, which included doctors, cops & government attorneys.

This is his story. www.propublica.org/article/ap3-...
A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias. This Is What He Found.
Outraged by the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, a wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover climbing the ranks of right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. He didn’t tell family or friends....

We should stand with vulnerable people no matter what, because it's the right thing to do. But it's also very important to note that solidarity is PRACTICAL.

A trans person is a gateway to other queer people. An asylum seeker is a gateway to citizens. A Muslim is a gateway to Jews. On & on.
We tried telling everyone that it isn't just about trans kids, or just about trans people.

They are coming for ALL LGBTQIA people, cis or trans.

Far too many pretended the right is mostly targeting gender. That was never the case.

this is it! this is what makes me insane about NIMBYs. do they truly not like the benefits of living in a vibrant, walkable neighborhood? do they just hate other people (emphasis on Other) and change? what a miserable way to live and see humanity.
I very selfishly want even more people to come here so that it gets even more walkable and they have to run trains more than just every half hour and have to start having real transit.

More people are great and will make this place even better.

there it is.
My generation largely didn't have access to the queer elders who could have mentored us, because politics that let them to die by the thousands. Now, many of those same people in power (and plenty of new ones) are doing everything they can to cut the new generation of queer kids off from us.

watching this happen, and then seeing people in the us have the final stages of an extremist meltdown as a result, has completely reshaped my view of the world
It is truly wild that it is estimated that more than 20 million people died of Covid and the prevailing vibe is that the world overreacted. That is an astonishing toll! More people died of Covid in the US than in the Civil War. www.pbs.org/newshour/hea...
5 years after it appeared, things we know and still don't know about COVID
Five years after the virus that causes COVID emerged in China it still holds some mysteries.
