If America had a functional opposition party, they would just be repeating this message over and over. So many people already hate AI. Those of us who lived through the dot com and subprime mortgage bubbles should be terrified about this
“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

So that was a lie. Fenway health in Boston just eliminated access for trans youth.

Dallas is their Executive Vice President of Donor Engagement and External Relations.
Massachusetts is standing strong. While many states across the country have restricted or even banned access to healthcare, Massachusetts has not backed down.

Just finished watching this and I think it's an excellent analysis of some of the ways LLMs companies are putting the cart before the horse and how everyone else is going to suffer because of their gambits.

There's a substack too.

It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

It's wild how the existence of ICE, created by George W. Bush in the wild police state policy push after 9/11, is now just taken for granted as something that obviously has to exist. It doesn't! It's barely 20 years old! It was made by the guy who held the previous record for the dumbest president!
hoooly shit

This is a real question posed to The New York Times Ethicist

And their answer was not what some might call... ethical!!!

I'm putting a tariff on the word "tariff"!

Hooked up an arcade dispenser to give me a ticket every time that god-forsaken word shows up on my computer screen.

I’ve noticed a lot of discussion here about the religious nature of artificial intelligence discourse, especially how AI and ChatGPT is a thinking, conscious, god-like thing in Silicon Valley and beyond.

An incomplete list of resources on the topic of religion and AI to help make sense of this. /🧵

I've had the opportunity to follow my curiosity; explore the workings of nature and society; mentor students and junior colleagues in the same process; and teach generations of students about it all.

I haven't stopped to consider how AI misinformation can be passed from adult to child before. That's really sobering context.
AI is a library in the way that a pile of dog vomit produced by a dog who ate a book and then vomited it up is a book
When I talk to kids today and they ask me what I would do if I were 12 today, my answer is always the same, read books and learn how to use AI in every way shape and form you can. It is a living library that gives you responses and can help no matter who you are or where you live.

Vital thoughts as we consider both the national scale and our immediate interactions w one another. In the big push for community level coalition building, this is a fantastic reminder of just how much words matter.
The notion that Trump's "I'm king" tweet is "just trolling" or "a joke" presents an opportunity to recreate my just-joking thread (porting it over from the Bad Place):

1. I wrote my PhD dissertation on the social function of humor (in literature & film) and here's the thing about "just joking."
