Not gonna make it. Movies and old anime on occasion. He/Him
You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I sure got myself into a situation this time.

The three evil kindergarteners crack me up. The original's one of the funniest panels Takahashi drew, recreated well here.

I see we aren't even pretending someone might fall for Ukyo's disguise.

I liked Šejić's Harleen enough to get it in hardcover. Harley Quinn's origin story's obviously going to be dark, but it's told with compassion so it feels like a tragedy rather than nihilism for 15-year-olds, like so many allegedly mature comics.

There's something there, what with the association between Mordor and Isengard with industrialization, but I'd note that Tolkien's orcs don't talk like they do in the movies. The officers in particular speak nasty but standard English with some flourishes. Even the grunts' speech isn't that marked.

Starting a band wasn't even her first idea. She originally tried to attract more students by winning a kendo tournament and succeeded in the latter.

The manga's written by Sakurako Kimino, so it's an interesting illustration in the difference between moe and yuri character appeal.

That's more something that happens in adaptations and follow-ups than LotR itself. The two orcs in Mordor speak somewhat more lower-class English, but Tolkien's orc officers speak standard English. Grishnákh's style is even somewhat elevated.

It gets less subtle.

It's at least a little beautiful how more than half of us have been blocked by at least one person.

Remember the time The New Batman Adventures basically called Joel Schumacher the f word?

This is such an evocative piece of the Legendarium. The Blue Wizards (the "they" here) are cool and all, but Eastern humans fighting stubborn guerrilla war against Sauron for millennia, opening a path for Frodo and Aragorn, remaining forever unknown and unthanked...

Which is to say, Kathy Rain 2 is really good. In-universe, it's set just a few years after the original, but it's a much more adult game. The snarky and mildly sociopathic hero (genre expectation) has gotten to a point where that shit's stopped being charming and has started alienating her friends.

Oh the pain of being Finnish. You can be watching Patrick McGoohan's personal-political masterpiece of the Cold War, hollowing democracy and the self via Kafka and Warhol, and all you're thinking is "holy shit, is that Number Two sitting in beloved Finnish design classic the Ball Chair?".

But does he know about his career as a Gundam villain?

Ash had orders to "bring back lifeform" and was a sudden replacement on the crew, so they probably knew a decent amount. In an earlier version of the script WY had deciphered the message and knew exactly what was there, but later revisions are more ambiguous.

Wonder why they didn't just say this in a ZZ episode. "What the hell is up with Glemy Toto" is just confusing, rather than one of those mysteries that make the work richer by not being answered.

Mayfly of Space II was made in 2016 as a bonus for the bluray release, directed by Imanishi himself. Going back to the same drama cd again implies he knows they didn't do justice to her character back then. Even in its current form, Cima Garahau's still the best thing about 0083.
August 9, 2025 at 8:07 PM
I forgot about the Mayfly of Space in my thread so let's talk about it.

Among other things, 0083 is criticized for thematic lightness and an... unclear attitude to Zeon. The writers had in fact the perfect solution to both in Cima Garahau, only they failed to include her backstory in the anime.

00's Lasse Aeon has a Nordic first name, but since everyone's going by code names, he could be from anywhere. Cool name, though.

That's all I've got, going by memory and light research. Are there any major omissions?
