The iridescence is due to light scattering by very small cloud particles (< 10 µm) ❄️
A large number of very small ice particles is characteristic of homogeneous ice nucleation, occurring in the absence of aerosols.

Left by UW CIMSS looks like "marine cold-air outbreaks" that occur in extratropics & are characterized by stratocumulus-to-cumulus transition (SCT).
Reminds me of SCTs in subtropical oceans that I've studied. Check my #JGR paper & #ams2024 talk.
