You know, when I was a much younger and more confident man, I wrote a whole damn book. People bought it! I made less than a hundred dollars and it is out of print now, but it was a real thing. I have no idea why I'm now so terrified of the blank pages in front of me.

You know, the thing they don't tell you about teaching kids is that you you watch so many futures just...end. I've had students die. I've had students involuntarily hospitalized and never come out the same. I've watched more students than I'd care to admit end up in prison.

I used to have a panic attack every time there was a school shooting. Now I just kind of...go to work? Make my copies, get my classroom ready, and sort of make peace with the fact that I might die while teaching children about Zheng He or something.

Fire and forget hot take: the whole male loneliness epidemic thing? It's totally real and it's part of the design of capitalism. Strip away all sense of community and all you have is work. Of course people are lonely because lonely people take the scraps of faux-affection from work more easily.
