My advisees Özge Karban and Deniz Özdemir have successfully defended their MA theses during the Summer 2025. Özge will pursue her PhD at PennState, and Deniz will do at Binghamton University

Do sanction threats work? We find that threats—even if credibly backed—do not increase support for concessions in the target public (Turkiye case). Plus, positive inducements provoke backlash in some groups, highlighting coercive diplomacy’s limits

Since my graduation back in 2017, I was in @bingpolisci.bsky.social for the first time as a guest speaker. A great audience with tough questions as always.

Our article is online first now. Comparing public attitudes in USA, Germany & Türkiye, we show that public concerns over human rights violations in foreign countries are highly strategic, based on political alliances rather than legal context.

Our article w/ Buse Duveroglu -soon to be graduated PhD candidate- is online first now at Terrorism & Political Violence. We have examined the impact of leader tenure on COIN strategies (free 50 copies www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....). A great pleasure to work with a rising scholar in the field.
