Rode my Bianchi to the lake this morning. It cries out for a silver headset

Had a beautiful birthday last week with lots of old friends in Pittsburgh then caught out. My first time, it was fun and boring and also scary. My amtrak got cancelled yesterday so now I'm killing time until this evening's train is cancelled too. I bought five books at Open Books yesterday.

I'm forty years old now and I rode a freight train and I'm stuck in Chicago!

Biked from Berkeley to San Rafael this morning. Only 20 miles but maybe the longest ride I've done in the bay.

This is my shit!

Drank coffee and bought four books at Bridge Thrift in Highland Park even though I'm living out of two bicycle panniers this month. Really excited for the Fisher and the Lara.

Drop bars don't play well with classic front baskets. Front rack with ziptied basket is usually the way to go. Your best option will be determined by the space between your bars and front wheel, and the available eyelets on your fork. Here's my setup, Surly 8-pack rack with a ziptied Wald 1372:

I've been enjoying this Bianchi, but today I put a Brooks on it, and now it's incredible. I also added a bell to the stem. It's not quite a dirtbag Rivendell, maybe more of a dirtbag Crust. The triple crank is overkill, might cobble together a compact double. Here it is earlier today, and right now.

Visited a woodshop closing sale and scored some fantastic unused caulks. All this for ten dollars!

My band played our first show last month. Was supposed to be in a tunnel under a bridge but the harbor police got excited so we played in a local parking lot instead. We're playing our next show in three weeks and should have a full five songs :)

Found this cool jacket in a dumpster today! Too lazy to take it off my bike and show it to you

I have abandoned the bicycle I found on Stock Island at the Tampa transit plaza. I'm taking the saddle and seatpost clamp bolt with me as my spoils. I just gave it to a guy who asked me for a cigarette and he rode away sitting on the rear rack.

I forgot that I wanted to see an iguana on this trip until I saw an iguana today

Had an open house yesterday for people to come take devin's stuff. It was beautiful. His mother and sister are here from New York. August's partner Caitlin happened to be in town from Minneapolis. I'm dreading the legalities. Very glad I'm in a band right now.

I scored big at goodwill yesterday.

Built it up on Friday with Nitto Noodles and brifters, but the fit was off and the brifters couldn't shift over the Biopace triple. The XT front derailleur has significant slop in its pivots too. Friction shifting makes this problem go away. The Moustache bars feel great.

I finished my new bike yesterday!

Really exciting news tonight... Microshift is bringing Rivendell's low-normal rear derailleur into production next year. Grant Peterson published this technical rendering of the derailleur, under full cable tension apparently.

Someone who cleans airbnbs gave me twenty six beers, four ciders, and a handle of Jack Daniels today. Free beer for everybody!

Wedding fits. Had no neckwear but bandannas were provided

I found a nice pair of jeans that fit at the thrift store last weekend! This only happens once every five years. I also got some dressy boots on the goodwill website in preparation for two weddings this month and got a haircut on Wednesday. I need to shine the boots but I feel sharp today.

Yesterday I finished Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez. What a book. Sometimes feels baggy, but an amazing and grotesque exploration of class, sexuality, familial abuse, and 20th century Argentinian history. As if Gretchen Felker-Martin wrote Peter Straub's Blue Rose trilogy.
