I did. I saw your further points that are basically the same as what I said. Still valid for Catholics to feel insulted or disgusted at Trump’s sheer audacity on a daily basis.

Blasphemy? No. Do we make jokes internally about the pope? Sure. But normalizing Trump’s childish behavior as the head of state isn’t the right play and not calling this out for being insulting isn’t it either.

Because federal grants/research is for the greater good. It’s open to the public because our tax payers fund it. If the precedent is set that we are no longer funding research- it has terrible consequences for our society as a whole. Look at the history post WW2 of the partnership.

They sent letters to universities conditionally terminating awards unless they signed a letter agreeing to the reduced 15% rate moving forward. They learned from NIH’s case and are trying to have compliance in advance.

This one is for the Friday night “policy flash” trying to cut indirect to 15%… the same crap NIH tried to pull on Feb 7 and was shot down by the courts. Particularly egregious since many Dept of Energy grants REQUIRE the recipient to cost share 20-25% of the project costs with internal funds!

But it’s not. First of all, Endowments are largely used to support tuition. Secondly, not every R1 or R2 has an endowment or a big enough endowment to begin to try to weather this. The blanket indirect rate of 15% decimates every single university in this country who does any research at all.

As one of his constituents-NO! And the staffer I talked to today couldn’t be bothered to even hide her side conversation and asked me to repeat myself twice. Completely unacceptable.

Seriously-and all that red tape with IACUC and FCOI! Come on… are there too many regulations? Probably. But don’t sit here and say “grant offices” are the enemy because we enforce safeguards and ensure proper accounting 😡

My tween/teen kids are very social-get on FaceTime and “hang” with their friends from their homes and play video games together as if they were in person. It’s not the exact same but it’s also not a complete departure from socializing with peers.

I got an email at my institution today letting me know they were manually reviewing all already awarded grants before approving payments. Encouraged “proactively” answering bulleted questions to ensure faster review to align with “Secretary Noem’s” priorities!

RA? Because sadly there were at least two of them and pretty sure the second was real 😑

Hoosier here who will happily donate for that fight 😡

And how often does AOC get death threats? Absolute cop out.

Makes sense. It didn’t read like ANY NOT I’ve ever seen NIH issue. Everything in the verbiage was wrong and not rooted in the reality of working in research administration with higher ed.

Literally the first thing I said as an elder millennial who grew up on DARE 😂. Can’t wait to hear about the (legal in most states) gateway drugs!

Because you have to have critical thinking skills to understand the tool you’re using. Our fellow Americans have shown beyond a shadow of a doubt the majority does NOT have those skills—and intends to defund DofEd. This becomes a weapon of propaganda in those hands and not a tool for advancement

Going to miss Open Mike and the blog posts. Helped me for 10+ years navigating grants with NIH and pointing new faculty towards. I knew as soon as I saw that (rightful) memo he was on the chopping block.
