Wait, I just searched again and there IS a (1973) movie called Love For Sale…but it’s porn??? My parents took me to a lot of age-inappropriate movies, but still…

No IMDb listing or anything. It must be a false memory I guess? But my memory of it is so strong. I can even visualize the drive-in showtimes in the newspaper. It’s like the entire rest of the world forgot its existence!

I remember an old (1970s?) film where someone gets an appendage bitten off by a snapping turtle. Was it Frogs (1972)?

I think this is a great point. The math whizzes I know are well rounded, humane people who also like math and are good at it. I think it’s the ones who fetishize it in a pathologically aspirational way who are weird.

I get the sense from reviews that Edgar Wright makes a decent attempt to bring a lot of this across, but it's all undercut by the need to make everything about pop spectacle. Ah well, I'll see it at some point and maybe it'll surprise me.

You know from the jump that it’s not going to end well. Our hero isn’t going to bring down the system or even get any meaningful revenge against the wealthy elites. At best he'll trade his life for medicine for his kid, all for the entertainment of the vapid masses. It's the story of our times.

No Time to Die was the last Bond overseen by the Broccoli family, so we haven't had any Amazon-era Bond movies yet...but I'm not super hopeful. OTOH, I have a lot of faith in director Villeneuve—he has yet to disappoint—so, we shall see...

* I was only a spectator in this dream because my subconscious wouldn’t entertain the notion that Joyce Carol Oates would invite me to a dinner party :(

This happened 5-6 times until finally they ended up somewhere in the New Mexico desert. Once again Elon appeared all “hey guise what is up!” Oates was so incensed that she pulled out a huge rifle and fired over his head until Elon finally warped out of there.

With I, Claudius you need to get over "the sets are cheap, I can see it's a wig, the age makeups a little rough, it was shot on a ViewFinder" etc early. Otherwise you sound like someone attending a Broadway show spending the whole time complaining you know it's not real bc you can see the curtains.
