Ed tech. Mostly reposts. Some commentary.
Can you really blame them for thinking that when charters are talking about replacing teachers with AI and we have posts like this from the man laughing about using a chainsaw to cut government jobs? This is not "empowering" to educators.

I'm not worked up, just don't understand who this 'Lumi' is you keep referring to. I hope the screenshot of the homepage shows how it's not helpful in answering the question. Can you just tell me? Is it a person? Software? Stuffie? The interaction below is why I thought 'Lumi' was a platform.

Is that 'okie dokie' as in you're agreeing with me that a platform is not a companion? You keep saying that it's explained on the site, but I hope a quick screenshot of the front page shows how it doesn't explain how it's a 'companion'.

When you see things such as the AZ charter school marketing itself as having no teachers, or comments such as the one below, do you not worry that teaching as human-centered discipline is under threat? Not that tech can do the job, but that there are efforts to change the job into one they can do?

Teachers are quibbling over the percentage that ChatGPT contributes to cheating behaviors, while new charters are bragging about not having teachers and the face of the 'AI' takeover of government services is saying things like this.

The objectives aren't secret.

Apparently it's best in class with just under 27% accuracy on expert level questions. But don't worry, because it's getting close to 73% accuracy on questions that are 'conceptually simple' for humans, and almost 79% accuracy for the easiest ones. openai.com/index/introd...

Are you a teacher who has a lot of extra time on your hands? Now you can donate your intellectual labor to grifters who make money spicing up the same ideas we've heard for decades with the latest hype-filled buzzwords. Don't miss this chance.

I don't know. I asked ChatGPT about this, and it was quite negative about having an LLM design rubrics. It told me teachers should do it themselves because the process of crafting a rubric prompts teachers to deeply consider what skills and knowledge matter most in an assignment.

SchoolAI continues to avoid answering the question of whether or not they have the permission of living people to be simulated in their product. It is a yes or no question.

I thought our children were our future?! Promote human intelligence by giving educators the resources and support they need, not telling them to turn to Big Tech to manage impossible workloads and expectations.

Speaking of tech companies pushing their agendas as PD, would you like to attend a free extended Grammarly ad? This responsible tech loved by students advertises itself as being able to outline an essay, generate text, and edit for tone. Help students find their voice: Grammarly's voice.

This is an ad from Adobe Education masquerading as a 'news' report on AI in the classroom. As always, educators beware of Big Tech pushing their own agenda under the guise of professional development resources. #EduSky #EduGuardians

Got the reply to this, and it's such #BigTech vibes to make vapid sweeping statements about a product, then when criticized for that style of marketing, smugly respond that the critic doesn't understand said product. #Teachers deserve clear communication from #EdTech and from #AIinEducation. #EduSky

So... you can't see the quote anymore, but these are the sorts of vapid, sweeping generalizations that make me skeptical of those pushing so hard for #AIinEducation. The marketing of #EdTech is in lockstep to that of #BigTech, but so out of step with the reality of our situation. #EduSky

We cannot address negative impacts of technological tools in education unless we can admit they exist. Over and over, I see the attitude of "you just don't understand the tech" accompanied by a lack of interest of what educators are actually doing. #EdTech #aiineducation
