this is one of those days that the pages of history teach us are best spent lying in bed.
Shirley Temple films are the ultimate "turn your brain off and don't think about it" films. George Murphy meets a 10 year old girl and invites her out for lunch (which she attends alone with the full consent of her parent). She then serenades him with a love song. #LittleMissBroadway #TCMParty

After Variety's Top 100 Comedies list was released today, I decided to FINALLY watch #TheNakedGun (1988, David Zucker) for the first time. I found it a lot funnier than I was expecting - I have such a weird sense of humor, I wasn't sure what to expect. But Leslie Neilsen, be still my heart.

#PrideandPrejudice (2005, Joe Wright) is one of the greatest films of all-time.

I could watch it a thousand times and still tear up at the ending.

I think what Yasujirô Ozu captures better than just about any other director is the melancholy of change. I think that's why I connect so deeply with his work. He explores the sadness within the passage of time.

"We mustn't want too much"

I can't put my finger on what makes Yasujiro Ozu's films so special. To explain #EarlySummer (1951, Yasujiro Ozu) to someone, they'd likely think it boring. But it's so quietly powerful. Every film of Ozu's is a unique, timeless experience. A meditation on everyday life.

"You gotta bend like the wind or it'll break ya. Don't be a monument"

The final act of #DetectiveStory (1951, William Wyler) always gets me. Subverting expectations, the plot surprises in the best possible way. Eleanor Parker delivers a powerhouse performance in this underrated Wyler gem.

Tonight's movie (another @criterionchannl.bsky.social discovery) was #SoLongAtTheFair (1950, Terence Fisher) starring Jean Simmons and Dirk Bogarde. On the Eddie Muller scale, it's probably not quite a film noir- but it's still a very atmospheric, suspenseful period mystery. Perfect for #Noirvember!

"I'd rather be told the cruel truth than be fed gentle lies"

#HighandLow (1963, Akira Kurosawa) was PHENOMENAL. I've always been put off by the runtime, but it goes by so fast. Kurosawa makes the most of every second, every frame, every line of dialogue. It's a masterpiece. #NoirAlley #TCMParty

Okay you've all sold me. Two hours late, but I'm now seated for #HighandLow (1963, Akira Kurosawa). Thankfully I recorded the #NoirAlley introduction! #TCMParty

"Ocean waves. Ocean waves"

I just watched #OneBattleAfterAnother (2025, Paul Thomas Anderson) and it absolutely lives up to the hype. Leonardo Dicaprio is BRILLIANT. One of my favorite performances of his incredible career. Give him the Oscar now.

"I am insane. And you are my insanity"

#12Monkeys (1995, Terry Gilliam) was truly excellent. I had such a blast. So much better than I was expecting and, unfortunately, it still feels all too relevant. Bruce Willis was fantastic and anchored the mind-bending premise to perfection. #TCMParty

I've been exploring 1971 in film and tonight watched #TheAndersonTapes (dir. Sidney Lumet) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social. Incredible cast with Sean Connery, Dyan Cannon, Martin Balsam and Christopher Walken. An unconventional caper film with a message on the pervasiveness of modern surveillance.

I just watched #Obsession (1949, Edward Dmytryk) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social and it was one of the best new-to-me classic films I've seen in 2025. An excellent story, great performances and very dynamic pacing. I LOVED IT.

If you've never seen it, make it a priority this #Noirvember.

Just said the exact same thing lol. All the men in this movie are AWFUL.

Fully invested in Evelyn Green having both murdered Mr Small and having framed Chester Morris.

Here's hoping she gets away with it! #TCMParty #NoirAlley #BlindSpot

Oh yeah, Chester Morris' character is a real charmer. No wonder she fell in love with him within a few hours (while he was blackout drunk). #TCMParty #BlindSpot #NoirAlley

Yeah I really like this film. It kind of reminds me of two very underrated noirs - "Deadline at Dawn" and "Two O'Clock Courage". #BlindSpot #NoirAlley #TCMParty
