Someone should call him upand ask him if he still has the picture of Trump with bikini girls in Epstein's kitchen, cause I think some news outlets would probably pay beaucoup bucks for that one

As the podcast pointed out, the issue dates back to the publication of a paper in 1967. It's a matter of technique, even with the simplest books, rather than any particular technology.

I just do not understand the aversion to practising spelling out loud. Drilling simple actions works really well.

Rude. 'Body' includes policymakers and everyone shaping the curriculum.

Could we maybe focus on the question of why there has been such an aversion to basic learning techniques like repetition in American education?

Again, I am not blaming individual teachers.

Why would people in one of the most demanding high-stress jobs fall ill when you jack their stress levels into overdrive by not paying them? It's a real mystery.
November 13, 2025 at 2:21 AM
That's why I said 'as a body, not as individuals'. You don't need to be defensive about it.

The point is these shortcuts aren't effective and it's bizarre to me (and most non-Americans) that American schools have avoided using effective tools like repetition for so long.
November 13, 2025 at 2:18 AM
Having grown up up outside the US, this is bizarre to me. It seems like American educators (as a body, not individuals) are obsessed with cutting corners instead of doing the basics like spelling or memorizing simple arithmetic operations. Repetition isn't thrilling or sufficient, but it works.

lmao they took her to the situation room to try to impress her?

As I said earlier...

Seriously, do you not remember learning to read as a child?

Who are these teachers that don't understand how kids learn to read? Do they not remember learning to read? Did they never take any interest in the topic when they decided to become teachers?
November 13, 2025 at 1:38 AM
I'm talking about the people in the article who specifically said they had no idea how kids learn to read.

You've never been in a street fight

Bad people don't stand there and announce what they're going to do, giving you time for a brave gesture of solidarity, they just do it. Are just gonna jump in and start wrestling the goons? No you're not. Maybe if 10+ of you happen to be there at the right time.

You're telling me the promises the GOP gave to end the shutdown weren't made in good faith?!

Sheldon Whitehouse, maybe Elizabeth Warren

Bluesky blocking is poorly designed. It's very easy for someone to post bait and then block people who respond, making the respondents appear to be at fault and making many conversations incomprehensible. It's a design failure which is damaging community growth.

My life has improved so much since I stopped reading op-eds

It's one thing if it's a domain expert explaining some fundamentals people ought to be aware of, but most op-ed writers' skillset is limited to persuasion

Republicans: make 70+ attempts to repeal the ACA

Democrats: we're going to expose what these guys really think
November 11, 2025 at 5:14 AM
Correct, and with that leverage the Dems could have forced the GOP to add healthcare subsidies to the budget. Now they've away the initiative in favor of starting all over again.
November 11, 2025 at 4:59 AM
Fight with what leverage? Your 8 colleagues just gave away the one bargaining chip you had. How are you going to hold the GOP accountable? they'll just vote it down and give you the finger.

Do you realize how many midterm votes you just torched?

I was trying to err on the side of optimism so as not to be too doomerist

Get rid of Schumer and tell Padilla to wake up. He hasn't posted anything here in four months. I'm sick of elected Democrats who just ignore their constituents.

In reality, 20-30% of the public are assholes who will support the GOP no matter what
November 10, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Toppling ineffective leadership now will give momentum and meaning to those primary challenges
November 10, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Have you considered the possibility that they're just selfish assholes who don't actually care much about other people
November 10, 2025 at 9:07 PM
If this was true they'd have been out selling it to the public beforehand. Anyone who surprises you in an unpleasant way and then tries to sell you on the merits afterwards is a liar.
