Born in Texas but got to Philly as fast as I could. Victorian studies, painting, gardening, & naps.

Opinions expressed here are my own and do not represent those of my employer or any other organization.
For today’s fall vibes, I offer this bumblebee napping on a dahlia in a graveyard at dusk. #bloomscrolling

As I always say, the best Halloween costume is an elaborate inside joke about declining public transportation infrastructure by way of a 40-year-old science fiction franchise. Particularly in combination with a lizard that critiques nuclear war. Halloween is famously a holiday of ideas.

The third and final wave of my Canterbury Bells. This has been the very best plant I’ve ever grown. I already miss her. 🥲 #bloomscrolling

I’m borrowing this really great dog for two weeks. He is a 90 lb. snuggle muffin and highly photogenic.

Rapidly developing Canterbury Bells situation.

I painted a silly homage to my recent diagnosis of a “redundant” or “tortuous” colon. My son tells me I’ve finally gone too far. I’m going to hang it in the powder room so he has to look at it every day. #art

Please enjoy this tulip and this peony shoot offering each other a gentle hug. I’m glad to know they are friends.

Started today trying to read some Ruskin, but then I wanted to make art instead of reading about it.

So now I have a pocket-size memento mori.

Baldwin had such a beautifully expressive face. He could say so much with it.

A great director, but also a great hairstyle. RIP. Decided to add him to the office door for Spring 2025.

A little dramatic lighting for my new one, inspired by misericords in British cathedrals. Art history aside, it’s feeling very January 2025.

Moment of zen from a photo by Josephine Sittenfeld published in the NYTimes. Nothing dampens the noise like sketching delicate tendrils of hair.

Detail from Ingres’s portrait of Princesse de Broglie. “Sometimes when I get nervous, I stick my fingers under my arms…”

I love this and also want to share my love of another cephalopod artist, Juliet Schreckinger. Her medium/technique is pen and ink stippling. (These photos not great, but she has an IG.) Hooray for the vampire squid!

Two weeks after the first flower opened and a week after freezing temps set in, my monkshood is still looking good and putting out fresh buds.
