Many popular frameworks such as @duckdb.org don’t currently integrate with iceberg well, per Nikhil.
Specifically, compact functions—necessary for iceberg table maintenance—don’t exist. So you need to rely on clunky tools like spark.
For now, I don’t plan on using these APIs much.
I think we're about to see an explosion of data tools (@materialize.com, @clickhouse.com, @duckdb.org, et al.) learn to write Iceberg tables via S3 table buckets.
