The BBC includes this explainer in their rolling coverage of the UK Government scrapping NHS England.

I don't think @jimmcmahon.co.uk answered this question.

UK Labour correct the Daily Express by specifying England.

But Keir Starmer refuses to #SayEngland.

Depending on which source you read, today's pothole announcement can be about England or Britain.

The better solution is to ask the people, and the people have already rejected regions once. The academics who have studied it most thoroughly over many years are fairly unambiguous about it.

I regard myself as a Little Englander.

The way that the Remain ran their campaign suggests that this wasn't entirely wrong-headed.
December 10, 2024 at 8:53 PM
Further back than that. the likes of Farage and Cummings cut their teeth during the fight against regional assemblies.

I'm just writing a post about it now. Here's a sneak preview.

This is extraordinary. As Starmer says that one of his missions or milestones, or whatever they are, is 'Britain rebuilt with 1.5M new homes' his social media team flash up '1.5M new homes in England'.

Making it look as if he doesn't know what policies are devolved and which reserved.

I also don't think Michael Gove is ignorant or lazy when referring to the National Curriculum in England as relevant to Britons.

I think he's a Brit nat.

Johnson was only too aware that Westminster isn't an England-only parliament and fulminated on it many times, often unpleasantly.

So I disagree with the quote but go ahead and use it for all I care. I think Johnson is a prize twat, so I really don't care.

I've seen this meme thousands of times on Twitter. I let it go. If you want to use that buffoon's words to further your cause, by all means do. But I'll object when it's below my article calling for an English parliament. It isn't the 'gotcha, you have an English parliament' that you think it is.
December 4, 2024 at 3:05 PM
Does this mean that England and Wales are more progressive than Scotland?
November 29, 2024 at 5:38 PM
I feel that Englishness is more about countryside, poetry, literature, art, society and the way we interact with each other.

Britishness is Royalty, military, punching above our weight, imperial nostalgia and pretension.

But maybe that's just me.

This is very true. They say think they're unionists rather than nationalists, and then they go on to talk about the British national interest, sing the British national anthem or climb British stairs to warn on the dangers of nationalism.

You don't think he was an influential figure in terms of modern Scottish identity?

You think his work was just aimed at the English.

I disagree.

You may have passed this on your way to Waverley Station.

Interesting that it's had a revival in recent times. Why do you think that is.

Though we shouldn't be complacent because the conditions are there for fascism/alt-right

Representative democracy in England is failing.

The same problems apply to British nationalism but we have government, democratic institutions and centrist politicians waving the British flag.

English identity needs to be normalised through normalising its governance: an English democracy.
November 23, 2024 at 3:34 PM
Regional assemblies will not give the English the same devolved rights as the Scots and Welsh.
November 21, 2024 at 10:52 AM
Hard to know where to begin with this. Epic conflating of England and Britain, and the handing over of wads of cash to a Reform UK Party whose manifesto doesn't even mention England 🤦

Sadly, there is no English Green Party. It's the Green Party of England and Wales. Scotland has its own Green Party and Wales has a semi-autonomous Green Party Wales within the Green Party of England & Wales. It's a bit of a mess.

A bit like the Remain campaign.
