What's one thing you'd change about #PeerReview as a reviewer?

I'll start: I'd love to see what the other reviewers said about the same paper so I can learn from their perspectives and expertise.

Ever watched a scarlet macaw delicately work to get at a piece of fruit?

These birds are more than just pretty; they're also important seed dispersers.

Sometimes they even swallow fruit whole and plant new trees with their droppings!

I left academia to build something I couldn't stop thinking about: a better way to #PeerReview research.

It isn't an easy path, but I couldn't stand by any longer without trying to fix a broken system.

I'm really proud of what we're building at stacksjournal.org.

✨Resplendent Quetzal✨

So lucky to see one of these magical birds the other day.

But did you know that their feathers aren't actually green? They actually look green because of how they bend light. There’s no green pigment at all, and they can even look brown under different lighting.

What’s the single worst comment you’ve ever received from a reviewer?

I'll go first: "The authors should consider finding a study replicate."

...It was an observational ecology study. 🤦‍♂️

Editor says it’s ‘out of scope’… but they published three just like it last week.

When I started @StacksJournal.bsky.social, I thought the hardest part would be building a modern #PeerReview platform.

Turns out, it's when you're slowly gaining traction.

Some days it's overwhelming. Other days, a researcher says, "We need this so badly." It all keeps me going.

Capuchins are some of the smartest monkeys in the Americas.

They use tools, solve puzzles, and clearly know what matters in life: 🍌

When you:
✅ Funded the research
✅ Wrote the article
✅ Paid to publish

...and now others have to pay to read it.

Make it make sense.

If you could change one thing about #PeerReview, what would it be?

I'll go first: make it double-blind during review, but reveal reviewer identities when the paper is published.

🦥 Did you know that two-toed sloths don’t fart?

They actually reabsorb gas into their bloodstream and release it through their lungs.

What happens when Peer Review focuses on collaboration and learning, instead of gatekeeping? #SciPub 🧪

It's what we're building at @stacksjournal.bsky.social.

I think I could watch howler monkeys eat leaves all day.

But did you know they also have the loudest call of any land mammal? It can travel up to 3 miles through the jungle!

Have you ever seen an anhinga?

Unlike most water birds, they actually don't waterproof their feathers.

Why? Because it helps them dive deeper and hunt better underwater. So cool!
