(If you are a completist i must warn you to listen in order until they get the intro/outro patter solidified, though. if you listen to a bunch of recents and then try to go back to the beginning like i did, you will be left yelling BUT AM I GOOD ALEX at your phone at the end of the early eps.)

The musical is of LA Cage Aux Folles, which was the original French play the Birdcage was based on. It's glorious, endlessly quotable, and while Val is still a dipshit he gets more of a growth arc.

The musical does a lot more justice to Val. At the end he gives a big apology, saying "I hope you can forgive me someday" and the Senator says "yes, thank you" and Val says "i wasn't talking to you." It's a hell of a moment.

... Honestly i think this should be given as an exercise. "Pick an able bodied patron in the fiction section and watch them. Every time they pick up a book and put it down again, go walk up and down the stairs. That would be equal access for a disabled patron in that situation."
