I was inspired by Christopher Pepper's book marketing suggestion, but at my house, Kona the cat is the hottest property. She kindly lent her image to this campaign.

So if you've got a son, buy his book. And if you have a student with a disability (or work them), buy mine. Kona says you should. 😉

Even though their high school didn't require it, *some* students with ADHD might find their college requires they have testing to support their request for accommodations. Learn how they can check and what they should do. https://bit.ly/LDBlog120x

Plans to prepare students w/disabilities for college must be informed by accurate information about what does & doesn't happen there. Too many people get a lot wrong. In this article for the International Dyslexia Association, I explain what you need to know! Read it.: https://bit.ly/LDAIDA

People worry that colleges are biased against students with disabilities. Students may hear they shouldn't disclose their disability when applying. They need facts, but the advice they get about disclosure isn't backed by data.

Have you used the term "difference" instead of "disability" with your college-bound high school student(s)? Now is the time to think carefully. Doing so can deprive them of knowledge they need to self-advocate. @jesslahey.bsky.social & others offer advice for parents. https://bit.ly/LDblog154x

1/2 I love this post. I see a lot of problems with perfectionism with my college and graduate students. Well-intentioned adults often respond to this challenge with accommodations such as extended time for papers and assignments, but this is something that isn't commonly approved at college.

In a Facebook group last week, several people (including advocates who claimed to be knowledgeable) told a parent that all a student needed to request accommodations at college was a 504 plan. This is incorrect, as are other things you're hearing.
