Targeted attack on a dockside restaurant in North Carolina. Three dead. Suspect a former Marine sniper in Iraq and Haiti who tried to sue the US govt for “genocide against straight men by the LGBQT community.”

Terrific @scientificdiscovery.dev post on randomized controlled trials in @ourworldindata.org.

Including this important chart on the impact of pre-registration.

Magically, when people had to pre-register outcomes, many of the benefits disappeared.

This is the whole thing right here. All these tired fights about whether Dems should moderate are ways of dancing around the real problem, which is the that political parties no longer have any mass constituency.
In many countries, (esp. white, male) workers increasingly vote for radical right parties. Still, a sole focus on right-wing ideology only captures a narrow part of working class consciousness. Most workers, including many right-wing voters, are politically demobilized and distant from all politics.

My family escaped Ukraine from the pogroms and were lucky enough to escape to the US.

They took my family in — we had nothing and offered nothing, but a desire to get ahead and be free while being safe.

This is a country of immigrants, and we should be honoring that history.

I really think our culture's decades long epistemic crisis is the root of the rest of the bullshit we face
I think this point is far more important than we realize. The fact that we consume completely different media showing us completely different things is a huge driver of division.
This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

a society that wants to keep functioning needs to discourage balanced lying, especially by authorities
ultimately i think the central thesis of trumpism might be true nihilism, just the absolute disdain for the idea that anything matters at all beyond winning an argument in the eyes of your supporters. there is no such thing as competence. there is only loyalty and occasionally bad press. that’s it

I don't think this is quite it. I think the median elite journalist is very proud of being apolitical - which amounts to reporting facts and opinions without doing independent analysis.
But if you don't practice analyzing situations, you end up with weird ass opinions.
Take modified from @volts.wtf
One thing that has sort of surprised me is that it does really seem like the desire to be ruled by a powerful fascist daddy is stronger in the median elite journalist than in the median voter.

What therapy is mostly good for us figuring out, in a really deep granular way, what is wrong. Sometimes understanding what is wrong helps you fix it, sometimes it doesn't. But therapy isn't necessarily gonna fix you. And that's not really adequately communicated by a lot of therapists.

This incentivizes car loans with less money down, and higher loan to value ratios and higher interest rates, which not coincidentally is how car dealers make their money.

AMERICA HAS A HOT GARBAGE PROBLEM. LITERALLY. A THREAD

1/ Last year, I spotted some data on LinkedIn that caught my attention. Fires at recycling facilities were skyrocketing as more vape pens, smartphones and electric toothbrushes enter America’s blue bins

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

This was one of the best NBA Finals I've ever seen, tragic that the Halliburton injury led to such a lackluster finale.

Rule proposal for #NBAsky, if a team commits more than 20 fouls in a game all future fouls end with the opposing team having possession -- even after free throws (make or miss).

The goal of this would be to decrease rates of intentional fouling at the end of games.
