Worried about the Earth; *not* worried about "ecologists" who promote defeatism and "overpopulation" rhetoric in a supposedly "leftist" guise.

. @tieber.bsky.social‬ Quick questions for you, Christian Tieber, since you wanna talk bullshit:

Do you find nothing wrong with this repost Elliot made, where he quotes and links to a blog post calling themselves a fucking "Eco-Nazi"?

Stuff like this is commonplace in the self-described "doomer" (hate that word) communities. I see it all the time, but I am confident that it flies over the head of most of the whiter parts of the climate movement, who don't seem concerned about fascism and white nationalism.

There is often a decent point in criticising when people leave out important things, but stuff like this graphic really demonstrates how people often just use it for mindless and unproductive whataboutery in replies

Also feels kinda telling how "migrant crisis" is right next to "overpopulation"

Good thing about vague prophecies is that you can basically run the "impending collapse" line around any war, supply disruption, disaster, pandemic etc and it'll 'feel' right

It is really noticeable how more and more white people in wealthy countries are getting noisier about "climate collapse", but on the rare occasions they actually go into specifics, they're just describing stuff like slightly reducing overconsumption. Which I guess feels like an apocalypse.......

The biggest-name influencers are directly attacking efforts to eliminate coal, oil and gas bc "you don't need to do anything to change your life" is a popular message among the TEDxSydney resin jewellry set (none of whom will be selling their Lexus SUV after listening to Wilson)

The second issue: fatalism directly helps the fossil fuel industry, because *their own* core talking point is their own inevitability / unavoidability, and so it plugs with full compatibility directly into the massive disinformation machine they have created

Because it's such a massive, bald-faced lie, it pushes people who spout this line into profoundly absurd and weird corners.

Eg: the guy who says that the growth of renewable energy has in fact made emissions **HIGHER** than if we'd done nothing at all. Or, all the huge lies and deceptions in this:

HEY here's a new piece for @crikey.com.au!

Sparked by David Suzuki's recent comments, but more broadly in response to the recent rise of performative fatalism: the reassuring, widely popular and lazy idea that fighting back against fossil fuels is worthless

Climate fatalism is just as wrong as climate denial — it's never 'too late' for change
Veteran environmentalist David Suzuki believes the time has passed us to stop climate change. He's wrong.
