Dividing up basketball teams by height would make a lot more sense!

But the conversation also highlights something that I think is bizarre about school sports culture, at least in the US: the idea that the point of the thing is to win.

If you think the activity exists for educational […]

Time to once again discuss the "rounding up/give $5 at the register or charity."

It isn't a tax writeoff for the company. Period. You aren't giving them money that goes to their tax writeoff. That's not how any of this works.

If they say "we donate 10% of our proceeds to charity!" _that's_ […]

We don’t say “13-year-old man” or “underaged man” because boys are always talked about as boys when they’re young.
But girls are often called “young women” or “underage women,” even when they’re the same age.
That means:
Girls get labelled as adults earlier.
Boys stay labelled as kids longer.

One of the professors said that the new policy would make routine lessons on things like the Holocaust impossible.

In somewhat good news, today the state department website has changed the answer to this question to defer to ICAO policy. Sources still tell me that there is some appetite for invalidation/reversion of passports issued under the injunction, but this message will be welcome to many trans people.

The weirdest thing about this discourse is that states with shorter school closures have the same amount of learning loss! I keep waiting for all the punditry on this to catch up with basic facts
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

You might be greeted by an EMERGENCY CLOSURE sign.

Apparently they have detected the presence of "transgender books" and are quarantining them as if they were a dangerous plague.

It is unclear how many other libraries have or may need to temporarily shut their doors in order to cull their children’s sections for gender-subversive content.
