Our air monitoring program puts customized equipment in areas overlooked by state and federal agencies, and trains communities how to utilize air quality data.

In 2024, the BioLab Chemical fire sent toxic plumes of chlorine and hydrochloric acid across Conyers, GA. Residents reported exposure to chlorine over 20 miles away from the site of the accident. We’re partnering with leaders across the South to enhance community response to environmental hazards, pollution threats, and emergencies like chemical accidents. Visit e2i2.org to learn more. At e2i2.org, we independently collect, and simplify, air pollution data for communities at risk of hazardous environmental exposure.

Our work addresses the difficulty in sourcing and interpreting scientific data for grassroots efforts against environmental challenges across the South.
Federal rollbacks on air emissions standards will increase environmental health disparities. 🔥When the BioLab chemical fire affected our Rockdale County neighbors in Conyers, GA, our community air quality monitoring system detected PM2.5 levels 8 times higher than the recommended daily average, approximately 30 miles away from the site. Watch our press conference here: shorturl.at/TC897

Environmental hazards like lead in water or extreme heat seriously affect perinatal health. This hits especially hard in the U.S., where Black birthing persons die from pregnancy-related causes at nearly 3x the national rate. Plus, the Southeast sees some of the worst infant mortality numbers. (1/3)

👋 Let's break down some environmental data. What's PM2.5?

💡PM2.5 stands for particulate matter. In our data reporting, we use it to describe a mixture of liquid and solid particles suspended in the air emitted from sources like construction sites, roadways, industrial facilities, or landfills.
