A friend lent me his copy of McMindfulness by Ronald E. Purser. It's a fierce critique of how (although it can help people) the current corporate mindfulness thing strips away concern for the wider world from Buddhist practices, resulting in something that benefits capital.

AI combined with cynicism & greed are killing higher education, along with the anti-intellectualism of the MAGAists/authoritarians. A population dependent on digital technology for everything and addicted to speed & convenience is ripe for plucking by fascists.

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

A perfect example of how to get a participation trophy without even suiting up to stand on the sidelines.
A "FIFA Peace Prize" is tantamount to getting an "AutoZone Best Actor in a Dramatic Play" award.

And "I want to really save lives" is rich coming from the homicidal slob who is murdering people on fishing boats in the Caribbean.

TOM COTTON: The premise of your question is not well-founded

BERMAN: The answer is no. It would not be legal to kill them.

My sense is that most people who vote/pay attention still can't believe this is real. "When they tell you who they are, believe them" hasn't sunk in
The new National Security Strategy of the U.S. contains some pretty explicit white nationalism:

“We want to support our allies in preserving the freedom and security of
Europe, while restoring Europe’s civilizational self-confidence and Western identity.”

Appeals to denial of benefits are going to be even more impossible when AIs are in charge. Prediction: machines will act to "reduce the surplus population " as Scrooge (and the digital overlords) wished.
Not content with raising our health insurance costs, now MAGA Republicans are planning to kick thousands of Washingtonians off of Medicare using AI made by corporations who *get paid more if they kick more people off* 😡

This will raise costs for working families & hospitals in our state.
Thousands of Washington state Medicare users could soon have claims denied by AI
Starting Jan. 1, traditional Medicare recipients in Washington state will face a new hurdle to get certain procedures covered — private AI companies that get paid based on how many claims they deny.
