Quantifying giving to “people in need” could be challenging. Conservatives donate more to charities, but they also tend to be more religious which encourages (if not damns you to hell in some cases for not) giving.

I don't think there's anything wrong with people who do good work for ethical causes earning a lot of money, in fact, the world might be better if the best paying jobs were those that provided social good.

Yet learning this fact about King makes me admire him even more.

Today, so many capitalize on their fame, even those who are doing good work for public benefit causes. Yet King believed he only needed what he needed to his family to live, and the rest of the money he could raise should go to the cause of civil rights and economic justice.
