Combat brigades are not Europe’s problem. Readiness of those brigades and high end enablers is. It’s not an issue now, given the state of the Russian military, but it could be in the coming years.

That’s true, but the past few years have shown that they go a long way. Also, if Germany doesn’t lead a responsible nuclear program for EU nuclear deterrence, it will be ceded to others. Finally, sadly, extended French deterrence is contingent on French elections (National Rally👀)

1. I wouldn’t call Germany a small state. Recalling now the Kissinger quote.
2. The last few years have proven the deterrent value of nukes.
3. Yes, conventional deterrence must balance with nuclear. Recalling NATO debates from the ‘80s and SACEUR Rogers.
