I hate that it attracted that kind of RPer to the point people had to be wary around anyone who associated their WoLs with Ishgard. I'm sorry you had these experiences too but it is getting better and the bad association is being shaken off by better people shouting louder.

Even if they weren't 'allowed', my WoL's lore isn't affected by that since he's the result of a Duskwight mother and an Ishgardian lord father and was born into the Dzemael family that way, so it's not like he tried to fill out an application form 😹 These RPers just wanted to be exclusionary.

That was the wildest thing too at the time, like they wanted to blanket ban Duskwight characters but Wildwoods are a spectrum of skin color diversity too, so I think they couldn't say anything there and just had to seethe I guess?

That's what I always thought and the gates were sealed from dragon attacks more than anything. They still had smaller settlements in Coerthas to manage and needed to still be open to trade to the outside, otherwise the entire city would collapse. Was just another excuse to be exclusionary RPers 🤷♂️

My OC was born inside Ishgard pre-Dalamud but his father did use his legs to walk outside to meet his Duskwight mother for the first time. There was an argument from these kinds of RP groups that Ishgard was locked up tight, so conveniently no one but the kinds of RPers they wanted were 'allowed' in

Some people try to argue that they just shoved some Duskwight models without the ear clasps around Ishgard and that they aren't actually Ishgardian. But others have rightly pointed out that the Duskwight/Wildwood split happened after Ishgard was founded so there's no reason not to have them there.

Exactly, this is a nation that has so many interesting things going for it and much writing potential. How disappointing it attracted racists who want to use it as an excuse to be more rascist. I'd love to see more people drowning them out with better storytelling so we can lose that association.

Just a final comment... That RP group didn't do anything recently as far as I know, this was just me having an old man wakes up and yells at clouds moment remembering it when I thought about name changing.
But I really appreciate everyone who replied with their own experiences and support 💙

Felt my energy being drained just reading that 😭 I am not part of gaming RP communities anymore for various reasons but that would be another one for sure.

That is a fun point too that when a group of characters lack lore it gives more creative freedom to expand on it! I do have fun thinking about the family's ties with Duskwight history.

Same, lore purists and gatekeepers need to be more humble considering the director of the game plays a Lala who's eyes change color when she uses her abilities. We are encouraged to expand on lore and write how we want!
