It does add to previous confirmations that the barracks will be used for at most 12 months to host people, before being returned back to full millitary use. I am dissapointed it has no additional details on what phasing is planned, or what renovation work is needed.

I dont know - I'd like to think there's a better option out there, but if this really is the best, I'll do what I can to make it work

I'll be visiting people in the Barracks as soon as they do open to see how I can help

Supposedly the Home Office initial plan for their healthcare was for them to walk to the nearby hospital and go to the A&E as it was close by. I simply don't trust the Home Office to do a good job here if that's the planning we've had so far.

True - and when they get here, I'll go and visit them to see what help they need.

My main issue is I have no idea how we're going to provide for people health and welfare on the site - it's really old, already in need of a full refurb, and has asbestos in it.

Clearly, people need processing somewhere. I just don't accept that a building needing significant repairs is the most humane place to do that, especially without any clear plan for how the site will function.

I worry the government is chasing headlines more than actual solutions here.

In an ideal world, we have proper specifically designed centres with health and legal facilities so we can keep people safe, quickly determine applications, and if asylum is granted, providehe right services to integrate them into UK systems. And if not, to move people on humanely

I dont know - I can't think there's anywhere in my ward which is the right size for 300 people, and not in need of significant repair. Same for the city

In the case of Cameron Barracks, press reports this morning are it needs asbestos removed, a full refurbishment, and boilers replaced. Is putting people in such unsuitable accomodation there while spending loads really the best idea we can come up with?
