I’m sure this will somehow end up horrible for America. But if this only hurts the electoral prospects of the GOP, then here’s my reaction.

While this seems like an open and shut free speech case, this guy would spend months in prison. DOJ would argue that he's a danger to society and should be denied bail. And they would work up some pretense to try to deport him even if he's a natural-born citizen.
