Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

“The ballot is the moderate option.”
I think fundamentally the problem with post liberal thinkers is that they seem to assume that vanquishing liberalism results in their enemies being converted or defeated and not becoming radicalized into enemies who no longer extend the mercies they once did.

The current homepage of USDA. This is deeply and profoundly fucked up. And illegal. People need to go to jail.

I increasingly think how flattened every kind of criticism gets is one of the main discursive problems of social media. many reasonable things to critique about immigration policy under Obama or Biden. not even in the same universe as what's going on right now.
DHS was not actually tweeting out Nazi-themed propaganda under Democrats
guy who got extremely mad when people talked about it under democrats: WOAH ARE WE EVER GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW THE DHS MAY BE BAD?

"Well, Liberals seem to be pretty timid about engaging in violence. Surely, this is moral cowardice and not a genuine belief that life is sacred that, once the olive branch is taken and thrown into a fire, can turn into fiery validation."

It seems notable to me that this genre of complaint tends to come from accounts that spent 8+ hours a day positing about how much Biden/Dems sucked

Yes. One of the most powerful drivers of elite political discourse right now is wishful thinking: We don't want what's happening to be happening, so we make up a story in which it in less bad and more fixable than it is.

All very understandable but it is false and not helping!
I think we all know this but a lot of us desperately want to believe otherwise. We assume that most people are fundamentally decent and that we should be able to find common ground even if we disagree. It's shocking to find so many who genuinely have nothing but hate in their hearts.

There is almost nothing in Tolkien as pervasive as his love for the small and vulnerable, for the meek and the gentle. These are not the values of these thugs and they do not have any claim to them.

If you in any way think holding democrats to an impossible standard, and refusing to ever give them any credit under any circumstances, and outright lying about them on a regular basis, is bad, you are “blue MAGA.”

Whatever dems are doing is wrong. Whatever dems aren’t doing is obviously right, but will become bad and proof of incompetence and corruption if they start doing it. If there’s no way to argue what they’re doing is bad, they’re not doing it, or you forced them to do it, or it’s the bare minimum.

Whatever you think is the bad thing, that’s what democrats are doing. Even if you’ve seen no examples of them doing it, and even if the bad thing you said they were doing was the opposite thing a week ago.
I see that as of today, Bluesky Discourse has shifted to blaming Dem leadership for defending Platner's Nazi tattoo, a thing which I cannot stress enough has literally not happened, approximately one week after Bluesky was blaming Dem leadership for not getting behind Platner

As Alan Ryan says in “On Politics”, Nationalism has always triumphed over Socialism whenever the question has been asked. The working class of the combatant nations of ww1 were more willing to slaughter each over “national self interest” than collectively rise up for “worker’s liberation”

The dialogue is a whole other thing but the bit about "fuck you shoot me I'll die for this shit" and the reaction is the crux here, from Gandhi's time on down, no authoritarian in history ever knows how to respond to this and it's why it beats them whenever deployed

Currently there are exactly no cases of a person who is willing to talk about their transition from the far right to the left who you should actually trust with power, mainly because that's conceptually antithetical to being trustworthy.
