I feel, regretfully, I must turn down this exciting opportunity, not least because I can't find out anywhere what "50 points" is worth. Although, I'm sure the correct strategy is, after my detailed review of 12 chapters in 15 days, to reject the book and try to double my earnings #researchintegrity

Do you remember Cluely, the website that launched earlier this year advertised as helping students to cheat using AI in online exams, then raised $15 million? Cluely is now an invisible AI meeting assistant, prompting you and taking notes. Maybe this time, cheating doesn't pay? #academicintegrity

Move over Wikipedia! With the launch of Grokipedia, another source of truth is coming for student essays and written assessments. And, with it, all kinds of #techethics implications.

My work running LSEAIN has finally delivered me the opportunity to make #academicintegrity contagious!

With the International Day of Action for Academic Integrity now complete (for 2025) what were my 5 top take-home messages from the 15 hours of live presentations? I've compiled this with help of Mary Davis' summary as I didn't quite manage to attend all 15 hours myself. #IDoA2025 #academicintegrity

I always find it so relaxing watching ChatGPT Agents finding and reviewing literature and working on research papers for me #researchintegrity

The International Day of Action for Academic Integrity is in full swing. Earlier we met the superhero "Role Model Radiance" (known in her unmasked identity as Professor Mary Davis) and heard about excellent student-led activity taking place around the world.

There are times as a computer scientist when I so hope that posts like this are parody posts. The worst part is the replies accusing the poster of faking the image.

As funny as the comments about Cursor downloading more RAM are, this continues to show the real risks of vibe coders.

I had a very wide ranging and enjoyable conversation with Irene Glendinning tonight about #academicintegrity and contract cheating in the run up to the International Day of Action on October 15 2025. I hope that the video will be available shortly.

If you've not yet registered, you're warmly invited to join Irene Glendinning and me tomorrow Wed Oct 1 2025 evening (UK time), daytime (US time) to hear us talk #academicintegrity.

All unscripted. Who knows where the conversation will take us?

With just weeks to go until #IDoA2025, have you encouraged your students to enter the comic strip contest?

The odds of winning are good - but many say that integrity is its own reward.

Check out the rules and entry form:

The Shadow Scholars documentary film on the Kenyan writers working for the #contractcheating industry airs for the first time on UK TV tonight (Wednesday 24 September 2025) at 22:00 on Channel 4.

I had a small role in the documentary, and some of my thoughts follow.

What's the latest with the Kenyan essay industry? The Guardian has covered the story in light of the Shadow Scholars film on contract cheating.

Any opportunity for an unfair advantage! The world stone skimming championships has been at the centre of a cheating scandal, thanks to a sudden influx of suspiciously circular stones!

I ask my daily Grok task to also output sample social media posts. I don’t post them as is, but there are plenty of pipelines that do so.

The image is that text quickly mocked up using ChatGPT as an X post. This would be fake news.

This Grok 3.5 launch did not happen.

The reported launch is completely hallucinated, despite Grok knowing the current date and having successfully found a range of sources to base its report on (25 web sources, 27 X posts).

Grok hallucinates about Grok!

The example I’m sharing here is tame and amusing, but others have consequences.

I’m sharing a real example of how bots are manipulating social media. Through this, they are biasing GenAI output, either directly or through prompt injection.

A #techethics thread.

“Doctor, doctor, I keep dreaming ‘high-throughput assay’.”
“That sounds very scientific.”
“Indeed, it reactivated my reflex to forward predatory invites straight to the spam folder.”

Thanks to ChatGPT for helping with the humour #researchintegrity

I did manage to get ChatGPT 5 to reason, develop a replicable methodology, and complete more accurate analysis of what the market researcher should do based on 498 top voter comments. This was more complex than necessary and is only lightly checked. And yes, Reddit users did encourage lying!
September 3, 2025 at 9:01 PM
I asked ChatGPT 5 to analyse the Reddit thread and responses. This, apparently, is what other Reddit users recommended the market researcher did to save their job. To me, it is clearly garbage, in the same way that student survey results that divide into convenient numbers are also often fabricated.
September 3, 2025 at 9:01 PM
Do you use ChatGPT in your work without a full understanding of what’s going on? The data analysis capabilities of the GenAI tool can be powerful, but one person working in market research has come unstuck presenting nonsensical analysis to clients. Thread follows. #techethics

There are lots of UK showings of the excellent The Shadow Scholars documentary on #contractcheating coming up, some with Q&As with director Eloise King and Professor Patricia Kingori. Image from Instagram.

A grad student has apparently pirated a fiction book, written a review stating the author used AI, is now being sued by the author, the student has asked for help online, the author has also now seen the related discussions. Thread follows, along with a Reddit link. #techethics

Have you heard of journalist Margaux Blanchard? At least six articles by her have been retracted. This includes those published in prominent outlets liked Wired. Link to the Guardian coverage in the first reply.
