I'll be attending the Board meeting of the American Society for Microbiology remotely today, but nevertheless stylishly.
Sadly, air travel in the US is not as efficient as it was last year, and because of last minute and problematic changes with my itinerary combined with a lack of timely options that won't cause me to miss events I need to attend, I will not be able to make it to ASM Microbe this time. 🤦♀️

Today we celebrated our collaboration and support for each other at Lab lunch part 1! Specifically, we are reflecting on a three year project which finally moved into the next phase of investigation thanks to the dedication of everyone on the team. 🥳

The new fall semester always brings new undergraduate researchers to the lab, and we are pleased to welcome these students to #TeamBroccoli! We are also formally welcoming PhD student Heather Richard, who is workin on salt march ecosystems!

The "microbes and social equity" session at #ISME19 went so well!! I was honored to open the session with my story of #MicrobesAndSocialEquity working group, and to co-chair the amazing talks on how researchers and educators are combining microbiology with social science and community development.

About half the lab was able to make it to #ISME19 in Cape Town, and we decided to walk off our jet lag at the Botanical Garden in the rain!

Today we set up an automated culture system for a collaborative project we are hosting for Steev Sutton at the University of New England! Steev is researching the effect of nanoplastics on microbial communities.

I finished making a new desk for my home office this week, complete with motorized legs for a standing desk and room for two monitors, and not a moment too soon because I need to review about 700 pages worth of proposals, protocols, and dissertation chapters in the next two weeks 😰

Today UMaine celebrated the tenured and promoted faculty, and I was able to share it with Lee who has been there at every step with love and understanding. I ate a lot of honeydew melon and wore awesome shoes, and then came home to kisses from my most fur-vent supporter Izzy.

This morning I celebrated with Paige at the UMaine Honors College ceremony and got to present her with the Honors Medallion 💖. Then I ran into the outgoing leadership team of the PreVet Club and Capstone researchers from my lab Sydney, Autumn, Kayla, and Keagan. It's been an honor to mentor y'all!!
