Members’ resolution about increasing tick awareness at outdoor places Recognising that the health and safety of staff and visitors at National Trust places is a major responsibility, and acknowledging that tick-borne diseases are a serious and growing problem across the country, we call on the Trust to encourage greater tick awareness amongst visitors to its sites.

#LymeDiseaseAwarenessMonth is over but for those of us affected by this awful disease it carries on. But to start June I’m posting a picture of my attempt at a tick-aware wild flower garden. Mowed near the paths so no-one has to brush past the vegetation. Loving the crazy tall daisies. #TickAware
Small front garden which used to be a lawn but is now filled with 2 foot high daisies and long grasses. Zoom out of small lawn that is no longer a lawn. Daisies and other tall vegetation has been mowed next to the path so no-one walking past will brush the vegetation.

#LymeDiseaseAwareness month is exhausting. It comes too late for my brave son who battles the disease every day and has been for 6.5 years. So today I’m posting a picture of my favourite orchid. It is the first one I was given and the first house plant I haven’t killed! 12 years old and counting.

We were so lucky that our nesting box was chosen a few years ago. Could usually see just two little beaks poking out but when they fledged there were five!

It can cause a distinctive rash called an EM rash, but not everyone with the disease will have one. Not all ticks are the same - there are around 20 different species of tick in the UK. Bites can be missed by patients - nymph ticks (the immature stage) can be as small as a poppy seed.
