Reading the new Naomi Klein book, Doppleganger. Anyone trying to make sense of the madness of today's politics should give it a go.

My heart has really been broken by how many people on the left have celebrated or minimized the murder of over 1000 Jewish people.

Naomi Klein does a beautiful job of explaining how unwise and unkind it is to celebrate Jewish death.

Why are some of the left celebrating the killings of Israeli Jews? | Naomi Klein
Some continue to minimize massacres of Israeli civilians, and some even seem to celebrate them – this only fuels militant Zionism

Some interesting details on Bavaria election from yesterday.
Left: vote by age group (the older, the more likely to vote CSU/conservatives, younger vote green).
Right: vote by academic grade (the higher the academic grade, the more green voters)

Listening to Rachel Reeves on the drive to work. She has a Geoff-Boycott-opening-the-batting approach to policy comms, very cautious and giving nothing away. I think the fraud emphasis she's pushing is good politics, although unlikely to have much economic impact.

Earth’s warmest months on record redefined summer this year: Children at camps stayed inside. People worked and played outside late at night. Some considered moving to escape the worst effects. To many Americans, it felt like a climate inflection point. nyti.ms/3PCdmBq

You might wonder what attraction opposition holds if it doesn't even require fair rules. Kirshner contends that it allows for the exercise of collective agency, which has independent worth. Being allowed to organize a party to compete for power is miles better than not being allowed to.

It really reminds me of the Miliband era, when partisans would cheerily say 'you know, David Cameron is not that popular' and it's like, yes, on his best days he scrapes into net positive territory with some pollsters. Have you seen your guy's numbers, lads?

As @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social says in his column today, we have robust polsci evidence that what drives elections is the perception of competence on the big issues of the day:
Poll-driven politics does nobody any favours
One-dimensional survey questions foster one-dimensional debate
