Thank you to the great Dr @lydiaeeva for inviting me to talk about CCM & evangelical political action at Fairfield University’s 12th Annual American Studies Conference. One of the best things about the academy is the long friendships you make along the way - ❤️ you, Lydia!

I could not be prouder of my @pdxseminary student Austin Day, who defended his thesis about the Latter Rain Movement today with Dr. Dara Delgado as 2nd reader - Austin is one to watch in Pentecostal and charismatic studies!

Thanks to @oxunipress for inviting me to talk about God Gave Rock & Roll to You: a History of Contemporary Christian Music. Relient K came up, as did DC Talk, and of course Carman. Theo Calderara, editor extraordinaire - who saw the project through from start to finish - introduced the book!

The first public talk I gave about CCM was at Baylor in 2022 (thanks, Devan Stahl!), and it was such a wonderful full circle moment to talk with such smart people about the book after it's been out in the world.

Thank you so much to Dr. Doug Weaver, and the brilliant students of Baylor University - including some of my favorite Portland Seminary alumni Grace Babayan & Linda Moldovan - for reading God Gave Rock & Roll to You and asking such insightful questions!

What a joy to be with the Society for Pentecostal Studies! It’s so much fun to chat about all things Pentecostal & charismatic with scholar pals, new & old. Thanks to the great and good @marciafclarke for the invitation to deliver a plenary address this time around. See you next year, friends!🕊️🔥

For some families torn asunder, it feels like the end of the world. For former Assemblies of God pastor Lois Olena, it was a breaking point: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...

One Sunday morning in Georgia, a family walks into their Pentecostal church ready for worship. They're unaware that outside something life changing is about to unfold. During the service, ICE arrests a man just outside the church doors while his family sits inside. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...

Fully embracing the glitz and glam of Trump's 21st Century second term, prosperity preachers are setting their own political agendas and living the high life with their favorite president, a long way from their impoverished, Depression-Era roots.

In this ep, we explore the history of the health and wealth preachers who love Donald J. Trump, and their affinities with tech billionaires like Elon Musk & Peter Thiel.

Why does Donald Trump look and sound like a Prosperity Gospel preacher? And what does that mean for American public life? To find out, I talk with Dr Gabriel Raeburn & @bradleyonishi.bsky.social on Spirit & Power!

🗞️ Extra, extra! Season 2 of Spirit & Power - a limited series podcast from the Institute for Religion, Media, and Civic Engagement, made possible by generous funding from the Henry Luce Foundation- is in the works!

Thank you to the lovely faculty, students, and staff of @northwestu for bringing me up to the charming city of Kirkland, WA for their Pentecostal lectureship series!

Today I had the privilege of fielding questions about God Gave Rock and Roll to you from some very smart undergrads. The first question was about “sloppy wet kiss” v “unforeseen kiss” - it was a fun discussion!

“All the boys in the band want a valentine
from a Barlow Girl!
Boys think they’re the bomb
‘Cause they remind them of their mom”

If we are going into this much detail, I'd also suggest one of those worship leader hats

Am I a sporty person? No. But every kid in the Portland area was obsessed with the 90s Blazers, and it was the hugest deal in the world that Williams was appearing on stage at a Graham crusade.

Not only did I learn a lot reading it, @paulputz.bsky.social, I also got to reminisce about the time when I heard one of my childhood heroes, @trailblazers.bsky.social Buck Williams at a Billy Graham Crusade: www.deseret.com/1992/9/27/19...
