Old German Proverb:
“Erst das Wasser dann die Säure, sonst geschieht das Ungeheure“

English translation:

“First the water, then the acid, or disaster will be massive!” 😅

Someone posted this AI generated functional group chart and I JUST CAN’T! What a horrible time to have eyes!

The alkyne sp orbital tortured into 120 degrees, the “amide” that’s not, the “carboxylic acid” with the hypervalent oxygen, or the aldehyde with the literal -al sidechain - which is worse?

The motto of the University of Padua is:

"Universa Universis Patavina Libertas"

Which translates to:

"Paduan freedom is universal for everyone."

This reflects the university's historic commitment to academic freedom and openness, a rare stance in medieval and even early modern Europe!

Finally, the University of Padua is where Elena Cornaro Piscopia became the first woman in the world to earn a university degree (1678). She was not allowed to graduate in Theology, her field of choice. But they did allow her to graduate in Philosophy.

This moving painting on the walls of the university of Padua depicts how during war times students were forced to give up their university gowns for soldier’s uniforms.

Girolamo Fabrici of Aquapendente, was a pioneering anatomy professor at Padua who built the university’s anatomical theatre.
He mentored William Harvey, who later discovered the circulation of blood—a breakthrough that changed medicine forever.

This is Galileo Galilei’s podium from which he taught while he was a professor at the University of Padua. He was drawing quite a crowd of students (over 300 each lecture) who wanted to hear his revolutionary ideas. He taught in the largest lecture hall that existed.

Galileo called his time at Padua “the best years of my life.”
It’s where he refined the telescope, mapped the Moon, and gathered evidence that the Earth orbits the Sun.
Padua’s commitment to academic freedom—rare in the 17th century—made it a haven for revolutionary ideas and groundbreaking science.

If you ever find yourself near Venice/ Italy be sure to visit the legendary University of Padua — one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1222!

Walk the same halls as Galileo Galilei, who taught here for 18 years, and view the Anatomical Theatre, the first one in Europe (1595!).

Meet Hemlock (Conium maculatum) - the 2nd deadliest plant in Europe. It was used to execute Sokrates.
The main culprit is a piperidine alkaloid natural product called coniine, which causes ascending paralysis—the body shuts down from the feet upward, while the mind stays clear until the very end…😬
