Introduction:

Hi I'm Khadesia (ka-dee-jah) or Lady D. Emerald.

I am a weaver of black spirituality, history, culture, public health, policy, & ethics/bioethics for Black & Indigenous liberation.

I'm a medium, 2-head, astrologer, candle maker and so much more!

A multifaceted Black woman 💁🏽‍♀️
They should delete my students loans then since my degree ain't a professional one.
It really seems like this administration is trying to eliminate the field of public health. MPHs and DrPHs will no longer be considered "professional degrees" by the DOE and, therefore, will face limits to accessing federal student loans.

Bingo
Every "population crisis" article in western media is just "WHERE ARE THE WHITE BABIES" in disguise and we absolutely do not have to give any credence to any of them

I think they did this to break up the possibility of her winning tbh. It gives more people a chance to win. They've done it in other categories in the past and it has helped.
Wow, Frieda McFadden has 3 books nominated in the same category?! (I didn't realize when I voted.)

Goodreads, y'all gotta set some rules. That's too many noms in the same category. 2 feels like the absolute limit, but 3 is a no.

Posting without context on purpose but I'm so tired of industry professionals saying Black readers don't show up for Black authors. It is utterly disgusting, it is completely inaccurate and disrespectful, and it most definitely does not encourage me to read you when you're saying that.

We are here.

You ever heard of Julie Dash? Some of you undoubtedly have, but quite a few I'd imagine not.

Julie Dash is the first Black woman (ever) to have a full-length film with a theatrical release in the United States.

In 1991.

There's a book as well.

Julie Dash turns 73 years old today

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

I just did the most important thing I could do for myself today:

Stand outside with my cup of tea and let the sun beam on me for a good ten minutes.

So rejuvenating.

Quite literally been thinking about getting a pregnancy pillow because I know it'll change my life.

Mind you. I'm not anywhere near pregnant
30+ folks, get an ergonomic pillow and a comfortable eye mask. The sleep is amazing!

Exactly. People don't read. That's the problem. She played chess not checkers. The lower courts have more progressive judges so she sent it back to them.
Everybody’s mad at Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson — but here’s what really happened.

She didn’t block food assistance; she issued a short pause so another court could review before billions of dollars were released without oversight.

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

“I used to date your brother. And you're four years younger.”
“My grandmother used to say, ‘a new broom sweeps well’. You know what that means?”
“No. What?”
“It means younger men do it better.”

Is your holiday decor already up? Then ’tis the season for unexpected romance!

To frame this another way: there are a lot of decision-makers sounding the alarm about a "student reading crisis" while implementing policies in their districts and schools that are actively removing books from the hands of students

(And that's BEFORE we talk about the censorship going on, too)

Recently met someone who was very surprised to hear I didn’t use ChatGPT or any LLM.

I said my job depended on doing distinctive work. That was my selling point. If I started to sound like ChatGPT and turn out what it did, then how on earth could I justify doing it? What would that make me?
