I think the issue is I start from the half-way point. Our HPC has a module system for things like CUDA where I can load and unload versions at will. In this case I had the correct CUDA for the version of pytorch but the wrong cuDNN. Once I loaded the correct one all went smoothly.

I haven't. Have had a play with uv but not for this project. Somewhat limited by what's permissable on our HPC. Thankfully we do have modules that allow for relatively easy loading and unloading of packages.

Just had to make sure I had the right ones loaded.
