hi bluesky!!

I'm Katie, a theatre academic based in Scotland who mostly chats about women's leadership in the cultural sector. When I'm not here, you'll usually find me eating or reading. Sometimes simultaneously. Mostly simultaneously.
Is Moodle down for anyone else or am I just having a particularly frustrating morning?

Anybody have access to Fiona Dodd's "Women leaders in the creative industries: a baseline study" that they would be able to share with me? None of my institutional logins are letting me access it :(

friends who have websites: what platform are you using? i need to spend a minimal amount of money as it's really only to direct people to a few different projects.

hellooo academic friends, do I know anyone who has received an AHRC Curiosity Award that would be willing to have a quick chat?

last week of teaching for the semester and for who knows how long for me. Been thinking of how much precarity robs you of a good ending. Last March I did big goodbyes to students then felt silly because I ended up back at the job in January. Not really sure how to talk about it all this time round.

This is maybe that bit too niche but is anyone writing anything about the representation of Christianity in Coronation Street recently?! It's mad how regularly it's talked about & how genuinely good the representation has been.

And yes, I'm outing myself as a Corrie viewer.

Started my day with a great class with my bloody brilliant first years and finished it reading really cool masters dissertation proposals.

Sometimes the job's alright, you know.

My diary is looking preeetty empty from April onwards (she says casually as if she's not COMPLETELY losing her mind at the thought). If anyone needs a freelance teacher/researcher/admin person or hears of any work going plz keep me in mind!! Happy to send over a CV to anyone who wants more info 💙

Is there anyone on here who received an IASH postdoctoral fellowship from Edinburgh who would be willing to answer a couple of Qs? 🙏

FRIENDS WHO WRITE: Thinking of starting an online writing group for accountability. Friday mornings 9:30-12:30. Drop in or stay for the whole time. Likely follow the 50/10 pomodoro format. Open to anyone writing anything. Drop me a DM if you'd be keen!

Weird point in the semester for precarious academics where you are both absolutely snowed under and desperate for the semester to end but also know that as soon as it does you’re out of a job.

Ah yes, that faith based on *checks notes* God sending his own son to die for our sins definitely tells us to prioritise our own children over strangers. You’ve nailed it, Vance.

I just think that in the year 2025 Microsoft Word should have options for highlighting that aren't neon or so dark you can't see what's written underneath. Give us some pastels, @mscommunity.bsky.social I'm begging.

There is no group in society I relate to less than the people frantically trying to get to the gym today.

Thinking of the brilliant @johnpavlovitz.bsky.social today.

idk somehow i've managed to go through thirty years on this earth without ever, even accidentally, doing anything that could be "misconstrued" as a nazi salute. just a thought.

You will hear many calls for unity.

Philippians 2 tells us how true unity happens: by all parties giving up selfish ambition and putting each others' interests before their own. By mutual submission.

If someone calls for you to unify with them but is not willing to do this, is it unity they want?

Boosting this again after some super interesting conversations this week. Great to tap into existing work and imagine new possibilities. If you’d be interested in a chat let me know!
In the (very) early, tentative days of thinking about a project that considers the relationship between the creative arts and faith, esp. in relation to the 'decline' of Christianity in Scotland. If you're a creative who might be interested in a chat about this, my DMs are open,

When did everyone stop using headphones? Why am I currently listening to two separate people scroll through tiktok on this train while another has an entire conversation, inexplicably, on speakerphone?

This semester I'm precariously employed simultaneously at three unis. It is still not a full time role or a liveable wage. It's only possible because I can live with my very understanding parents. I love my job, I think teaching is a total privilege. But I am so, so tired of living like this.

I have enormous sympathy for people losing their homes in LA. Along with that, I can’t help but think of all the Gazan’s whose well-loved homes have been destroyed over the last year, and the difference in response from some sections of the world.

Out of office(s) on. Sending love to everyone else who lives with the uncertainty of short term contracts and the frustration of not being able to make long term plans. Feels particularly rough at this time of year!

I'm away to ask Santa for a permanent, full time job with a liveable salary ✌️
