There’s a bear in there, and an ibis as well…
Yep, joining Play School in the field to go bird watching - with a focus on Australian white ibis - was fun.

Thanks Big Ted & Teo

New paper: “Extensive Tracking of Nomadic Waterbird Movements Reveals an Inland Flyway”. Turns out the Great Dividing Range acts, to some degree, as a barrier to coastal movements from the inland wetlands.

Swallowtail butterfly - ‘Pilio aegeus’, found in eastern Australia and Papua New Guinea

A magical moment in the park observing this beautiful creature with my 2yr old

A little ibis appreciation, I banded this bird in 2007 as an adult (>3yrs old), so she is at least 20yrs old! The deep red colour under her wings indicates that she is breeding, is it her 20th clutch or 60th - they can breed 3 times in a season

Baby brush-turkey, a couple of days old, adjacent to a busy road = urban living. Lots of people haven’t baby-turks because they are often more cryptic & flighty & they don’t look like the adults

New pape “Habitat use by nomadic ibis & spoonbills following dispersal from breeding sites in Oz”

Fantastic to start to learn about these big and obvious species - yet we know so little about them; just think how little we know about the small, cryptic species
