Doing the media bit ahead of the Linenhall’s annual Ulster Scots Writing Competition. Me and my homeboy in the corner of the Governor’s room while Prof Hutchinson is waxing lyrical on the quality of this year’s entry

This was a job that I really wanted to complete BEFORE the start of term madness kicked off. Waiting for a dry weekend (ha ha) so that we can finish painting the fence and get these gorgeous plants potted up next to it. I may be waiting for some time… but indoor outdoor plants is a nice aesthetic

Lovely thank you gift from my outgoing MLitt (and imminent PhD) student. She’s taking a well earned couple of weeks’ break before getting back to Scottish Romanticism and economic theory

This South African-themed display surprised me by thriving so well on 5 weeks of neglect. Yellow gladioli fronting three varieties of Agapanthus (“Blue Mountain”, “Charlotte” & 2023 Chelsea debut “Popping Purple”) with little jewels of red provided by crocosmia and rose hip

“We are inclined towards comfort”: Recent work by Jeff Krasno & Dr Sharon Bergquist on discomfort (“good” stressors) & the production of resilience. Greater availability of ultra processed *everything*, incl over reliance on AI, lessens our ability to perform complex thinking, to regulate emotion.
