I've been writing a textbook on computational cognitive neuroscience, which has prompted me to assess the evidence supporting various theoretical ideas. It's striking to me how some ideas have an extraordinary shelf life despite weak evidence.

TikTok shutting down in the middle of my live stream really felt like we were Thanos-snapped into oblivion, one user at a time.

"The new strategy “does not insist on making the perfect atom mirror,” Kovachy says. “Instead, it looks for a way to improve the collective net effort of many different atom mirrors, compensating for the imperfections of each individual atom mirror.”"

What is or isn't a "BCI"?

We argue in Nature BME today that if the tech stimulates or records brain activity AND does computation, it's a BCI.

But we still need a way to discuss different types of BCI separately... 🧵

This book explores the argument (through NDEs and OBEs) that the brain itself doesn’t produce consciousness.

Instead, the brain acts as a reducing valve to shift our nonphysical consciousness into a limited capacity that is useful to help the material human body survive

As of yet, there is no unified “theory of everything” that can combine the laws of quantum mechanics with those of relativity theory in a way that begins to incorporate consciousness.
