Yesterday I helped a friend capture her swarm of bees after her hive split. The swarm had followed a new queen and settled on a tree and we collected the bees and put them in a new hive. Incredible to watch these cool creatures! #bees #swarm

I have been at the aquacultureNZ conference for the past two days talking to the industry about phages to keep animals and people safe. Today we visited an oyster flip farm! Amazing and gorgeous! #micro #phage #NZLabLife

Congratulations to my awesome colleague Matt Stott, who has been awarded the University Research Medal; the Indiana Jones of New Zealand microbiology. Matthew self-describes as a research bower bird, flitting from one shiny idea to the next. Adventure microbiology at its finest!!

What a wonderful honeybee research symposium we have just had in Wellington! Really interesting talks from around the country and interested Apiarists asking great questions. So glad I came along this year! Many thanks to the organisers and sponsors! #NZLabLife #phages

Today was such a delight at the University of Canterbury. Robot competitions in engineering, our beautiful creek on campus, and a lakeside pop-up fairground in Hagley park were highlights in Christchurch today!

Check out the latest episode of #mattersmicrobial podcast to learn all about the work we are doing with phages for honeybees! Great time chatting with Mark about NZ, bees, John Roth and how phages can protect honeybees against AFB! www.google.com/gasearch?q=m...

This week I am at the #GRC meeting for Microbial Population Biology. It is my favourite meeting. There is nothing like these small meetings for gathering a community together, and I learn a huge amount here every time. Here is to 40 more years of this incredible conference!

Awesome #ASMicrobe meeting! I learned a lot and loved seeing old friends and meeting new people! There is nothing quite like a big meeting to generate random new ideas! Last session on symbiosis was one of my faves! @napaaqtuk.bsky.social

We are developing a killer team of phage biologists here who are ready to take on any challenge. My best moments each week are when these guys drop by to chat :) #NZLabLife @microsky

We celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday in NZ.

“A shout-out to all the mothers who have lost their children today, and to the children who have lost their mothers. Today can be a hard day.”

Every Friday I meet with the lab group and it is hands down the most fun I have at work. This week, Danielle Kok had this exciting #phage plaque plate. It may not look like much but for us, this was super exciting! #NZLabLife #Microsky #Mevosky
