Cis allies can pair up and call the authorities on each other for being trans in a public bathroom, exhaust due process until medical records are subpoenaed, and tire the cops with it until they complain so much about enforcing it that they stop bothering, like they did for non-crime hate incidents.
Anyone can be banned then. I've been mistaken for a man, a trans man and a trans woman before.

It's encumbent on all of us to make this as unworkable as possible.

Don’t threaten me with a good time
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The term "Luddite" as a pejorative synonym for "technophobe" was a technocrat PR coup; that's not what Luddites were about. They were a labour movement fighting to give workers control over technologies which were advancing w/o oversight and rapidly automating them out of their jobs. Sound familiar?

Shut it down. If your “product” relies on theft of property and deletion of communications about theft, you’re not a business, you’re a criminal enterprise with some credulous marks as investors
“authors & publishers who filed a lawsuit against the Sam Altman-led firm have secured access to internal Slack messages… discussing the mass deletion of a pirated books dataset… A NY district court ordered OpenAI to hand over the communications regarding data deletion”

and you know what? even many 10th graders should be able to understand writing that’s “complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references”

sometimes “meeting students where they are” means assigning something written by an adult for other adults
Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

If I want to listen to blather, I’ll talk to a school administrator and get paid for it. I’m not taking bullshit without compensation.
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

it’s my understanding that reading a book isn’t a gen ed requirement in a lot of places

if it was, the ap program would have to account for it
It’s actually fine to make college students read books
it’s amazing to me that an ivy prof is on record saying this in the nyt, mustapha mond stuff

Those 'welfare queen' gen AI images are a great example of how its epistemology is neither indexical nor normative; what matters is its ability to produce media aligned with what patriarchal racial capitalism has led people to feel is true.

The kind of things my freshies write in essays when they’ve barely done any of the readings🤣
It's incredible that Mary Shelley was just 18 years old when she wrote "Frankenstein" and 200 years later people are still thinking about it and talking about it and remaking it.

How many works of art have that kind of lasting impact?

Only legs left and a busted (FACE!)
There once was a king, Ozymand
Who bragged about all he’d command.
Trying to fill his foes with fright he
Said “Look on my works, ye mighty!”
But now it’s all trunkless legs and sand.
I heard there was a statue tall
That sneered at folk and commanded all
But you don't really care for symbols do ya
It goes like this the feet the fist
The head that fell the aim that missed
The long lost king whose name was Ozymandias

If ozzy should leave heere tomorrow
You would still remember him
For he would be statuin’ on now
There’s a many travellers that visage seen

But he would be sneering on now
Cause there’s so many works to look upon

Cause he’s as freeee as the sands now
And this king you cannot chaay-yay-yay-yange

What did people do before SNAP?”

They died.

Healthcare, vaccines, disability support, education & food assistance are vital to our survival.

They’re why the average lifespan isn’t 35 anymore

The mark of a good & decent society is whether it sees the value in helping others.
