Love this official pic from the Chicago Public Library Foundation awards dinner! I was very honored to be, uh, honored. The announcer was Bill Kurtis, who might have the most recognisable announcing voice in Chicago.

Yes I made a papier mâché torus. Because...manifolds. what fun!!

Yes I used a slinky for structure. I did half at a time, took them off the slinky and then stuck them together...

First time making moon cakes! A prime number of them...

Does anyone know what this kind of gate latch is called? I′m trying to find a replacement. It needs the vertical part to be dog-proof; I can only find ones without the vertical part that slots in to keep it closed.

I thought I had made a prime number of cookies again...but I was mistaken!

It's book release day in the US!! Just finished another interview about it...

The problem is that I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 and suddenly my beamer theme isn't working any more: I've been using Singapore for EVER, for the color gradient at the top. It has turned into a block, as in the left below. It used to be the right. I changed nothing in the tex file.

BTW I ended up dipping the aquafaba meringues in chocolate... (dark choc of course, so only ingredients cacao powder, cacao butter, and a little agave for depth)

Finally got myself a sun visor for playing tennis as my eyes are struggling with the light...I got the "men′s" because I have a big head. Of course, the "men′s" was also cheaper than the "women′s" although as far as I could tell it was exactly the same except slightly bigger.

Eco friendly hair implement?

I made plant-based meringues using aquafaba and they're amazing! I've been curious about this concept for aaages and was incredulous about it pretty much all the way to the end.

The mint choc chip ice cream sandwich cake came out pretty well and was devoured!

It strikes me that that is a very long string of nouns as adjectives.

Made mint choc chip ice cream on request today. Tried a new-to-me method where you freeze it flat in a ziplocand then chuck it in a food processor - great method! Much quicker than freeze and churn in a bowl (since I don′t have an ice cream maker).

Spot the glaring hilarities in this "data" from my fitness tracker today, besides the unlikelihood of my having only burnt 84 cal.

In case anyone has ever wondered, I've just accidentally found out what happens if you accidentally omit two-thirds of the egg from your brownies. The answer is that they are very delicious, but rather crumbly, a bit like shortbread. (oops)

That's it: I am now a person with my own seed mix for bread... 🤦‍♂️

Grainy seeded bread - yum! This is my new tennis fuel experiment.

Guerilla baking with @mantisrobot.bsky.social ... turns out cake made with a wooden spoon and a Pyrex dish is *even better* albeit sliiiiightly structurally unsound (ie hard to turn out of the glass dish)

It's funny how I don't usually feel the urge to drink Chinese tea (or any tea) unless I eat Chinese food on which case I instantly neeeeed Chineae tea. Turns out this little Yeti is perfect to take it onto the deck for my evening work!

Just spent a happy hour or so making my own custom dot grid background for when I'm writing on the ipad. I seem to have fully moved away from my paper notebook and pen. It was never the same when Daler-Rowney changed the paper anyway. Of course, I still bought a "lifetime's supply".

Willow Smith came round this afternoon! We had a far ranging conversation starting from the Koch snowflake in that chalkboard, to the square root of 2, the relationship with the tritone, the continuum via binaries, the law of the excluded middle, fuzzy logic, Russell's paradox...

Today's macarons. I'm not sure if I like the blueberry ones being blue when the filling is so very purple...but I previously made purple ones that were blackberry so thought maybe I would reserve purple. Also this pink is way too lurid for my strawberry filling. The pic doesn't capture the luridity!

It was like this at the back, with the scoop thing at the front.
