Science Ellen, curious but a little frazzled. Working toward another career chapter and life balance. Sustained by cats. Motivated by young people and IDEA(s). Personal beef with cancer and crushers of dreams/careers.

I got help from the AU Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship to show some of our students in Augusta, GA, this terrific and informative webinar hosted by Carole LaBonne, Ondine Cleaver, and four great PhD students in 1st to 5th yrs of their programs.

Looking forward to it!

Quiet day of rest for the overextended teaching professor and unabashed cat lady. Photos of three feline companions, featuring the gorgeous tortie.

Hey Alice, and Brian. Here's a recent picture I like of my girl Trace.

One little nook in my campus office. The fierce (angry?) koala is the newest addition. With me, protecting hearts and guests needing to hear "You Are Loved" while we also scowl and squint at a lot of what's happening these days.

Update. Arrived! Plan is to install koala as a guardian and conversation subject in the campus office. Summer courses begin 5/12.

How many cats are in this picture?

I ordered these pins from Dr. Robin Hayward's Etsy shop ( canopyrobin.etsy.com ) just over a week ago, and they arrived from the UK to Georgia USA this afternoon. Fast service, beautiful products as advertised.

My science people are not okay, especially the young trainees and junior faculty from targeted groups. Check on them and protect them if you can.

I've got this sweet cat to come home to. His name is Elvis!

Feel free to share your comforting pets, or words of wisdom or joy.

Not to let them off the hook at all, but could it have anything to do with this "eRA Commons Annual Validation" email? I received it on 1/11, and amid everything else have not attempted to update it.

Thanks for answering a question I had while taking trash out this evening. Horrible photo, but what a show in the clear sky tonight even with super light pollution.

Looks a little dangerous for "Kiss Your Ginger" day. He's fast with those paws, and in full possession of the freshly laundered sheets.

#CellBio2024 @ascbiology.bsky.social

If you teach cell adhesion, I'd like to share this Focal Adhesions Learning Module with you. I have a poster (Board B706) Monday 12/16 1:30-3 PM.

Post-hurricane events lead me to be unable to attend in person, but QR code/URL provided for zoom. 1/2

Highest maintenance cat here is the tortie. We affectionately call her Gremlin (not her government/actual name). She was born 3 yrs ago today to the best mom, a colony cat rescued and placed in a great foster home 1 month before kittens were born. So not quite a trash goblin.

See a tortie, share a tortie.

She rules us all. Just looks smol and innocent here.

One of the PhD students in my summer histology course made a painting for me this weekend. It is charmingly titled on the frame as "Pig Colon," and initialed and dated on top left.

Have never received course-related art as a gift before!
(I do have them make sketches in lab.)

More pictures of Till enjoying snuggles. She's still looking for her permanent person(s).
February 13, 2024 at 2:26 AM
This beautiful, gentle cat (Till) is seeking her own people, as the only cat, or with one other non-aggressive cat. She mothered 4 kittens some months back, and has received TLC in 2 foster homes. Apply at kitten.academy website, Monroe CT. Please forward to help find her a home.

Bonus good advice from Inspirobot for all of us, though I expect this to be hard in 2024. "Distance yourself from narcissists."
