Mostly historic buildings but also occasional landscapes of North Cumbria.
Getting arty! Leaves on a black background, Cumbria. The ‘black background’ is actually a water pipe but that doesn’t sound very artistic.

Crosthwaite Parish Church near Keswick in Cumbria. The present building is largely medieval with some Victorian internal alterations. In 1181, Jocelyn of Furness wrote of a new church at Crosthwaite recently built for Alice de Romilly, the Lady of Allerdale.

Askham Hall, Cumbria. Originally a C14 pele tower. Now a hotel. Askham is a beautiful little village, possibly the best in the Lake District. Has the advantages of not being in the central Lake District which is too busy and it’s on the eastern side of Cumbria which is drier and sunnier.

While the Grade I listed Dalemain House, near Penrith in Cumbria has a Georgian front from 1744, the rear gives hints of its original form. A peel tower was built on the site during the reign of Henry II (1175-1188).

Brougham Castle near Eamont Bridge in Cumbria. This castle was in a good condition when it was owned by Lady Anne Clifford in the 17th century but it was left to decay by Thomas Tufton, 6th Earl of Thanet in the early 18th century when it was too costly to maintain.
