Personal account so expect eclecticism. Law, politics, SFF books, anime, gaming, music. Queer stuff.

Day job = Administrative law and public law theory.
Any queer dude romances in there?

(One of the trends I've noticed in adult SFF in recent years is the almost complete siloing of books about queer dudes into romantasy)

This goes to everything from hiring someone, anyone, to fill an undoubted gap at a workplace then realising they can't do what they're hired for to activists fronting undoubtedly good causes who also have absolutely no idea of how to drive change.

I should add it does, imo, become a big issue in the case that this govt ends up a 3 termer. But also think we have even bigger problems as a polity should that eventuate.

In which I find out someone else actually read Changing Planes. Always faintly felt like I hallucinated reading it because I didn't see anyone else bringing it up as part of LeGuin's late career ouvre.

(for a powerful institution devoted to making the powerful explain themselves and their reasons for doing stuff, it's always struck me as a staggering blind spot that the news media seems *utterly* ininterested in explaining itself and its own decisions)

The reason it feels particularly distasteful in these circumstances is not naming the guy could be read as a favour to the Deputy Prime Minister. It may well not be that at all, but we deserve an explanation for the REASONS behind not naming, if nothing else.

Tenured profs in most jurisdictions that aren't Aus & NZ who complain about grading burden, you don't know you've been born lol.
