The thing is, Trump really has no ideology besides winning and dominance (yeah he’s racist and bigoted in other ways but he’d pretend not to be if he thought it would help him win.) He admires Mamdani solely because he won handily and did it in spite of strong opposition. Policy is immaterial.

I do hope Trump and the whole of MAGA implodes on itself as it appears that it’s about to. But we can’t let the moderate/establishment Dems take any credit for it, or let them continue to run on status quo policies. If they do, all the horrors of today will continue, only with a coat of blue paint.

Institutionalizing people doesn’t make them “better”.

Ending Medicaid in order to build concentration camps. I feel, as always, there should be some kind of nonstop barrage of ads across America, every Democrat on every platform saying something like “Republicans want to end Medicaid in words to build concentration camps.”
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:
- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention

The logic is pretty obvious here. Presidents can’t declare war so anything the president does without Congress can’t be a war. It’s not an assessment of what’s happening; it’s an excuse.
