As a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and father to an autistic daughter, I reject the idea that autism is a “preventable epidemic.” Rising diagnoses reflect greater awareness and equity, not a crisis.

It is the most bittersweet of Valentine's Days.
On 2-14-18, 17 innocent members of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas community never came home. 17 others were injured. Our gov't failed then and they’ve failed too many others since. Enough!

Science matters. Research matters. Without gov't funding for research infrastructure, breakthroughs in crucial areas like autism & neuroscience become improbable. #Autism #ADHD #Epilepsy #Neuroscience #WakeUpWhiteHouse @autisticadvocacy.org @nddesk.bsky.social @ippr.bsky.social @nihr.bsky.social

Let's not forget about crucial accommodations for individuals with invisible talents & differences. Just like physical accommodations, supports are essential for success at work, academia & social settings. #InvisibleDifferencesMatter #Accommodations @autisticadvocacy.bsky.social @ioe.bsky.social

Sensory sensitivity is a real challenge for many individuals, and it’s important that we recognize and accommodate this invisible difference in workplaces and social environments. Let’s lead the way in promoting understanding & inclusivity. #SensorySensitivity #InclusiveSpaces #UnderstandingMatters

Sensory sensitivity, distractibility, anxiety, and fatigue. It’s a chicken, egg, chicken, and egg puzzle...that deserves to be understood. Especially for autistic adults at work, in school, and socially. #AutismResearch #DisruptingTheConversation

Mobility leads to motility. Blessed relief. Better still...hanging out with your daughter after a nice 5k hike. Enjoy your days... even the trying ones.

Autism isn't the issue; it's business trying to "fix" it. There's no cure, & those with it don't seek one. Some "scientists" push questionable treatments, which is distressing for parents like me. It's disheartening when families depend on well-meaning pros for authenticity.

"Paxlovid Mouth" (i.e., dysgeusia) is a real thing. I can testify that it tastes like "grapefruit juice mixed with soap."

Oh, the journey continues to be wondrous.
